Jaqueline's
is
a place
to stop, browse and relax.
Fast
Internet, a great selection of new
and
used English Books
(over 2,000
titles) and a well of Information on the area, means you
will
likely drop in at least a few times if you plan on staying in Bagni di Lucca.
Weather your
searching local culinary delights, untouched Tuscan villages, walks
through the beautiful mountain terrain, or just need to know
where
you
can get pampered, Jaqueline
is
in the know and will let
you in on some
invaluable information that can't be found in a
guide book or tourist
info centre.
What
the
Grapevine magazine had
to say about Jaqueline's:
"...there's almost
nothing better than sitting (cappuccino in hand) amid a peaceful milieu
and
reading for an hour or two. Finding a good book though, is often where
the
journey stalls with few stores offering cheap, interesting titles
particularly
the further you get from the bustling Lucca walls. But tucked up in the
small,
stunning historic spa town of Bagni di Lucca,
a quaint little store has
just
opened selling a wide selection of second hand
English books. Just up
from the
square of Ponte a Serraglio, Jaqueline's, is
a beautiful example of
what
treasures you can find in Italy's small
mountain villages. With a
local's
perspective, coupled with a traveler's intrigue, the owner, Jaqueline
(same
name as the shop) has brought a warmth and personality to the Tuscan
town famed
for the therapeutic virtues of its springs, thermal baths and caves. As
a
traveler myself, I know the importance of a good book whilst traveling
or
holidaying..."

Pieve
di
Monti
di Villa is a small village near the top of one of
Tuscany's innumerable hills. There are few residents in peak season;
out of it, there are so few people
you will come to recognise each
voice and its owner within two days. You don't so much see other people as hear evidence
of their presence; they exist in coughs and sneezes,
arguments, shooing of
pets.
The
house
itself is perfect. There is small living room with a
fireplace, a spacious enough kitchen with a marble counter,
ideal for
rolling out fresh pasta. Upstairs,
there is the sort of bedroom you
wish you owned. More than once I was woken by the breaking dawn and
floods of new light through the bedroom window. There is a small
writing room and a bathroom upstairs and a basement to store
firewood and a washing
machine below. In short, there is all you need...
